The Griffins are people who have completed ten or more Canberra Marathons. Griffins are entitled to a discounted entry to the Canberra Marathon (courtesy of the marathon organisers), and a singlet with the Griffin logo (courtesy of Canberra Runners and its precursor organisations).
The history of the Griffins is described in an article by Rob Ey in the 2021 publication We Ran Canberra (eds Gilbert, J., & Modrak, C.). The Griffins began with the 1994 Canberra Marathon. The concept was developed under the auspices of the ACT Cross Country Club largely by Rob Ey with his wife, Carol Ey, suggesting the name. By the end of 2010 there were 122 Griffins, and, at the beginning of 2021, over 180.
